Destination Antalya: Breathtaking historical sites in the old city center

Antalya is Turkey’s biggest international sea resort, located on the Mediterranean Riviera and beautifully blending breathtaking nature, historical sites and monuments and modern luxury hotels and restaurants. Antalya is attracting visitors from all over the world with its beauty and the promise of extraordinary experiences, which ranked the city as number three most visited city in the world by number of international arrivals for 2013, just after London and Paris.


There are many historical sites to see in Antalya city and Antalya Province.  Kaleiçi, also known as the Old Antalya, is the historical city center. There are several places where a person can enter Kaleiçi from but the most emblematic ones are Kalekapısı and Hadrian’s Gate.

Hadrian’s Gate is a triumphal arch which has been built in the name of the Roman emperor Hadrian. It was constructed in year 130 after the visit of Hadrian and since then has been used and is still in use as the entrance gate to Kaleiçi.


Kalekapısı, which in translation means Castle Gate, is an ancient stone tower, situated right to the 40-meter high Antalya city symbol – Yivli Minare, in translation: the Grooved Minaret.

Antalya city center is rich in sites which must be seen and also has many interesting museums like Antalya History Museum, Kaleiçi Museum, Atatürk’s House Museum. Antalya has famous traditional Turkish bazaar and many wonderful beaches like Lara beach and Konyaalti beach.
